Georgia Swimming
Level 4

WHAT DO I DO FIRST?

Get evaluated!  New Athletes are welcome anytime during the year. Evaluations for new youth athletes are held two Saturdays per month at 10am or 11am at the Columbus Aquatic Center.  Click here to shedule your evaluation.

Masters Athletes (18+) do not require an eval. For details on Masters Swimming and signing up for a free trial, see our Masters Swimming page.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GET EVALUATED?

A simple swim suit and a pair of goggles.

WHAT SKILLS MUST I KNOW?

All incoming swimmers trying out for placement in one of our Developmental Groups must be able to demonstrate the following during their tryout:

  • Swim one lap (25 yards) freestyle/front crawl continuously and without assistance
  • Swim one lap (25 yards) backstroke continuously and without assistance

Swimmers who demonstrate proficiency in freestyle and backstroke may be asked to swim breaststroke and/or butterfly as well as longer distances in order to determine proper group placement in one of our more advanced Developmental Groups or in our Age Group Program.

WHAT AGES?

Swimmers should be 5 years old by September 1st of the calendar year to be a part of the Hurricanes year-round program. 4 Year olds are eligible to join our Pre-Competition Group (evalulation needed and currently running a wait list for this program) and our Summer TigerSharks program (no evaluation needed).

ANY COSTS?

No cost for evaluations, just tell the front desk that you are attending a Hurricanes evaluation.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

10 - 15 minutes, plus you can talk with a coach about any questions you may have.

WHERE DO I GO?

Columbus Aquatic Center is located at 1603 Midtown Dr., Columbus. Meet the Hurricanes coaches at the far end of the pool, by the diving boards.

WHAT DO WE DO AFTER THE EVALUATION?

You will have a short consult with a coach to discuss your swimmer's evaluation and which group is the best fit for your athlete's needs. Your swimmer will be able to attend a free trial week of practice with their practice group before registering.
