Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How do I know what level my student is? Children with little to no water experience will start in our beginner level. As they progress, our instructor will recommend moving to the Intermediate class. Students will progress at different speeds based on their age, enthusiasm for water instruction, attendance, ability to practice and personal motor skill development. If your student has done swim lessons previously, please share that info when you request a session to help our instructor with placement. If needed, our instructor will conduct a placement evaluation.
2. What do I need for swim lessons? Children will need a one piece swimming suit and a towel. Goggles are not recommended. The pool is indoors, so sun shirts are not needed and can impede their mobility and buoyancy.
3. Am I able to watch lessons? Yes! We have limited space available on deck, but there is a room with a large window to the pool area for those waiting on their swimmers. We do ask that parents stay on site during lessons. Only students and instructors are permitted in the pool. For the protection of our youth swimmers, photography of lessons and students is not permitted.
4. Are locker rooms available? Locker rooms are not available, but there are multiple private changing rooms for parents/children on the pool deck. Restrooms are also available.
5. Do you offer private lessons or lessons for students younger than 4 years old? We do not offer private instruction or instruction for children younger than 4 years old. However, Chattahoochee Valley ISR has options for private instruction and for younger students at the same location.
6. If my child has some swim experience, should I do Learn to Swim or Tiger Sharks? This choice will depend on the student and family, and you can certainly do both! Our swim lessons are designed to provide a smaller class size, with more focused instruction for each student. It's a great environment for students who are nervous about water experiences, need a little extra support, want more individualized instruction, or just aren't ready to commit to Tiger Sharks schedule. Once your child is able to jump into the water, kick to the surface and swim to the wall, they would be eligible to join our summer introductory swim team - Tiger Sharks. Tiger Shark swimmers continue to build confidence and strength in the water, but also work on body position, the four competitive strokes, and swim meet skills. It's a lot of fun and we encourage you to try it! For more advanced swim lesson students, who are able to swim 25yards in a front crawl and backstroke, they are eligible to join our year-round competition team, the Hurricanes.
7. How fast will my child progress through the levels? Each child is unique and will progress at their own pace through each skill. We have designed our curriculum to foster growth opportunities and mroe challenging skills within each level, before advacning students to a new level. Consistent practice and enthusiasm for water experiences will help aid their progression.
